DETROIT, Jan. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Unique Fabricating, Inc. (NYSE MKT: UFAB) and LINE-X announced today they will address the important issue of weight and cost savings in the automotive industry with a partnership to advance innovative products. The partnership targets the goal of reducing weight as well as showcasing new advanced technologies.
"Unique Fabricating's TwinShape™ foam air duct technology reduces part weight by an average of 80% and offers improved thermal properties compared to conventional blow molded HDPE," said Brad Hazen, V.P. of Business Development, Unique Fabricating.
"LINE-X is always looking for new ways to disrupt the industry and be at the forefront of innovation," said Dennis Weese, President of LINE-X. "Our presence at NAIAS this year with Unique Fabricating showcases incredible advances in the way automotive parts perform, inside and out, through the SSUV concept."
Making its automotive debut at this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, the Concept Car project named the SSUV (Super Sport Utility Vehicle) represents a non-exclusive partnership formed between Unique Fabricating, Inc. and LINE-X and will feature cost, weight, and part complexity savings and reductions for the automotive industry.
Unique Fabricating, Inc. will showcase an automotive fabrication portfolio of the cellular plastics and PU foam parts featured on the concept car. Unique employs environmental strategies to reduce their carbon footprint by creating a closed loop recycling program where waste and offal are shipped to recyclers and turned into new polyols for future fabrication.
LINE-X developed new advanced protective coatings which can be applied to both exterior and interior trim for enhanced durability. The SSUV Concept features an innovative coating, LINE-X XS-670, which is an in-mold, color stable coating that affords both cost and weight savings.
Advanced Automotive Technologies (AAT) both styled and built the SSUV Concept Car at their facilities located in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
