DETROIT, Jan. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The auto industry is experiencing one of the most exciting periods in its history. Technologies are continuing to develop at a rapid pace and innovative breakthroughs are changing all manner of concepts for both cars and the world's mobility culture. At the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Schaeffler will present its portfolio of technologies and products in three key mobility areas: energy-efficient drive technologies; drive train electrification; and a holistic analysis of the energy chain.

During NAIAS's Press Preview, Schaeffler will host a press conference at 8:10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15 in the Ambassador Ballroom (room 360 on the third level) of Cobo Center in Detroit. During the press event, Schaeffler executives will discuss:

  • The three key aspects of the global supplier's Mobility for tomorrow strategy;
  • Its global strategy to address the unique requirements of autonomous vehicles;
  • Anticipated 2018 global and North American growth and production plans; and
  • How its successful involvement in Formula E motorsports is driving research, development and testing of new technologies for passenger vehicles, among other topics.

In addition to approximately 30 engine, transmission and chassis displays, including its Glass Car centerpiece, Schaeffler's exhibit will highlight its environmentally friendly drive systems, including:

  • Electrification solutions that integrate Schaeffler's 48-volt system into the engine-transmission unit and axle;
  • Hybrid innovations for the next-generation high-voltage hybrid module and electric axle; and
  • Internal combustion engine developments, including a second-generation thermal management module, electric camshaft adjustor, hydraulic-switchable valve tappet and dual-mass flywheel with an integrated pendulum-type absorber.

Schaeffler will also present a holistic and sustainable approach that includes the entire well-to-wheel chain from the generation and storage of energy, through to mobile energy use in environmentally friendly vehicle drives. As an integrated automotive and industrial supplier, Schaeffler is positioned along the entire energy chain and has defined a correspondingly broad product portfolio that it will highlight at NAIAS.
