Adient displays superior design and craftsmanship solutions for future mobility vehicles
Automotive seating leader offers personalization options for vehicle interiors

DETROIT, Jan. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Adient (NYSE: ADNT), the world's largest automotive seating supplier, will showcase its many solutions to personalize vehicle seating at the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

Adient's comprehensive portfolio ranges from original designs to high-quality comfort technologies that enable automakers to easily differentiate their brands and models.

Here are just a few that will be on display at the auto show:

Seat covers

Since the seat surface comes into contact with the driver's body at all times, it receives the most wear and tear. Adient's new removable seat covers protect vehicle seats from dirt and stains. An integrated zipper makes the covers easy to remove for washing and also allows designs to be changed, adding a level of personalization to the vehicle interior.

Another individualization option for seats is Adient's proprietary, in-house digital ink-jet printing capabilities. This state-of-the-art technology enables automakers to offer various designs with unique colors, patterns and images, delivering brand differentiation and exciting personalization alternatives.

UV lighting

Adient's UV fabric lighting adds a new element of design to interior ambience. This innovative solution uses LEDs as the light source to illuminate the seat covers and door insert fabrics when entering the vehicle. It works with any printable design in combination with Adient's in-house digital ink-jet printing technology.

High-quality leather surfaces

Adient's 3D CNC sewing capability is a proven production technology that provides a 3D sculpted and crafted appearance for leather and artificial leather seat covers. Surface materials are produced with a semi-automated CNC sewing process that allows high-quality decorative precision seams and sophisticated 3D sculpting. This method can be combined with other Adient design technologies, such as leather perforation and thermal adjustment, to create unique surface designs that increase the comfort of the seats while allowing heating and cooling to work effectively.

Alternative luxury materials

Artisyn™ fabric is an alternative product to real suede (back side of leather), providing a luxury impression by increasing design and color variations and a leather-like appearance. Artisyn delivers benefits of a sustainable, recyclable material coupled with a high-quality, luxury look using a lighter material with higher breathability at a lower cost. Artisyn is an excellent material for post-tuning processes like embossing, high-frequency welding, laser engraving, screen printing and perforation.

Soft back panel

The back of the front seat is often not an area that highlights unique features. Adient's newly developed soft back panel technology changes that. Our new soft back panel combines the advantage of lightweight construction with a soft surface and proprietary technology that retains its 3D shape without relying on plastic injection. This increases the amount of legroom for passengers in the back seats. Adding to its flexibility, the lightweight back panel can be covered with fabric, vinyl or leather.

Comfort and configurability enhance productivity for rear seats

Adient's flexible seats for the second row combine comfort with lightweight construction. The integrated safety belts and rails recessed into the vehicle floor allow the back seat to move, making numerous seating configurations possible. In addition, the use of aluminium and steel reduces the weight of the rear seats by up to 15 pounds.

Adient – which became an independent company in 2016 after a successful spinoff from Johnson Controls – is a NAIAS event sponsor and exhibitor. Its exhibit showing these and other personalization solutions will be open to the media and invited guests in Cobo Center's Room 310B Jan. 15-18.
