NAIAS and PNC Foundation Release Second Storybook for Detroit Preschoolers; Pincy's Auto Show Adventures Continue

DETROIT, Jan. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and the PNC Foundation announced today the release of a second locally written and illustrated storybook designed to encourage preschool vocabulary development in a fun, engaging way.

PNC is sponsoring the storybook in support of Grow Up Great, its $350 million, multi-year bilingual initiative in early childhood education.

The book, entitled Pincy's Auto Show Adventures: Special Agent Pincy, will be officially unveiled and presented to Detroit Public Schools pre-K children at the Coleman A. Young Elementary School Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. Detroit Piston legend Earl Cureton will be the featured guest at the unveiling and will read preschoolers the continuing adventures of Pincy, the lovable canine who captured the hearts of tots in the first book released last year, "Pincy's Auto Show Adventures: Pincy Saves the Day!"

"'Pincy's Auto Show Adventures: Special Agent Pincy" was created to entertain children with a wonderful story that takes place right in their own backyard," said PNC Regional President Ric DeVore, speaking on behalf of the PNC Foundation.  "Vocabulary is considered a vital educational building block and has become a significant focus within early learning.  This book gives parents and caregivers an exciting tool to enhance their children's word development."

Each child at the unveiling will receive a copy of the new book and a stuffed animal version of Pincy seated behind the wheel of a bright orange car.

"Pincy's adventures not only give kids a fun way to think about cars and the auto show, but more importantly, the book focuses on a key building block in learning and that is vocabulary," said 2017 NAIAS Chairman Sam Slaughter. "The old adage, 'Readers are Leaders,' is more than a phrase; it speaks volumes about the importance of introducing vocabulary and reading early in the learning process."
